SENIORS! DOWNSIZING YOUR HOME?
WE CAN HELP

Downsizing for Seniors – Starting the Process and How it Works
When seniors decide to downsize their home after a life time of accumulating possessions, some things will need to go. We will use our downsizing and decluttering wizardry to help make moving from a large home into smaller one a stress-free process.
Having someone come into your personal space to downsize your possessions may make you feel apprehensive. Rest assured, we will always respect and care about you and your emotions and possessions during the downsize process. We will help you plan and complete the whole process of assessing where you are now and where you need to be. Not always an easy road to travel, but we will be there with you to navigate a smooth journey.
Should You Involve the Family in Downsizing Your Home?
No! Downsizing your home is a personal matter, and the family should stay out of the process. The family may want to come into the home and start throwing your possessions out and they think this is helpful, but it’s not! Their good intentions can create arguments and stress. There is a process and methodology and families, in their attempt to “help”, can be very destructive.

Should the Family get involved in the Downsize?
No. Family can, and do, come into the home and start taking things or throwing possessions out and they think this is helpful. Imagine for a moment someone coming into your home, taking your things and throwing your possessions out….. It doesn’t work and it creates arguments and stress. There is a process and methodology and families, in their attempt to “help” can be very destructive.

What actually happens during a Downsize Session?
To start the process of downsizing your home, we will ask for a tour of your home. We will help you to identify the areas in your home that you use and the areas you don’t. We want to learn about you and how you like to live so we can help you determine what should stay and what should go. What goes might be passed onto family members, sold, repurposed or given to charity.
Ultimately, you will be in charge of the downsizing of your home.
The Transition to a Down-sized Home
After you have downsized your possessions, it’s time to organise the transition to your new home. We can help with checklist of tasks to prepare for the move (e.g., real estate agents, movers / transporters, postal forwarding, services and utilities).
We can help you look at the best way to use your new smaller space. For example, on arrival, you may find that the 3-piece lounge suite doesn’t fit comfortably into the available space. That’s OK – it’s part of the process. Whether it’s the lounge suite or treasured items for a display, we will help you decide how to make the best use of your new downsized home.
The tasks of moving your possessions and then unpacking and getting settled at your destination are great times for your family to get involved. They can contribute a meaningful and caring effort in the downsizing process.

The Transition
Once the possessions have been sorted, it’s time to organise the transition. Sonya can help you look at the best way to use your new smaller space. For example she may sometimes suggest arranging furniture to make a space that is helpful to you and a pleasure to be in, Sonya welcomes the family to assist in this process of unpacking in the new home.
